When we first met Fatima

Fatima was referred to the PSS Parent-Baby Service by her perinatal mental health midwife, while she was pregnant. At the time, she was feeling low, anxious and isolated.

Fatima shared with us that she worked from home full-time, while her husband was out long hours as a delivery driver. Sometimes, this meant she wouldn’t leave the house for weeks at a time. With no close friends or family nearby, she often felt very alone, and she wanted some support to build up her confidence before her baby arrived.

How we supported Fatima

Together with our lovely team of parent-baby therapists, Fatima explored compassion-focused work, learning small but powerful ways to calm herself and be kinder to herself. By reflecting on her past experiences, she started to understand where some of her anxieties were coming from, and to see herself with more acceptance.

We showed Fatima how to use mindfulness tools, like simple breathwork,  and using her senses to bring her back into the moment. These helped Fatima feel more grounded, reduce negative thoughts and ease her anxiety.

Growing in confidence bit-by-bit

A big step for Fatima was recognising her own strengths and qualities - and she has loads of them! Through mirror work and encouragement from our team, she built up her self-worth and resilience.

From there, she slowly practised being in social situations, growing her confidence one step at a time.

Now, Fatima feels more at ease meeting and talking to people, and she has practical skills she can use to keep her anxiety low.

We’re so proud of everything Fatima has achieved – and we’ll be right by her side as she takes her next steps into motherhood.
